Vickers hardness test:

The Vickers Hardness Test can be performed on broad spectrum of materials ranges from softest to hardest materials. This test can is applicable for both micro and macro scales with loading rage from 0 to 120 kg with diamond pyramid intender. It can be done by applying controlled force for specified time, after removal of force a square-based pyramid indent is measured. The impression or indent and test load determined the Vickers hardness value as per formula.

    ✔ Test ranges 0.5 -120 kg

Brinell hardness test:

The Brinell Hardness Test can be performed on any metallic material usually this test can be applied to test castings and forgings. The indenter is pressed into the sample for specific period of time, the load depends upon the nature of the material. When removed, the value of round indent on the material surface is measured and calculates the hardness as per formula. Testing is performed according to required ASTM standards and other specifications.

Sample Requirement:

    ✔ As per international standards
✔ Sample could be of any size minimum of 15 mm.
✔ Machining Facility is available for larger samples.

Capability:

Rockwell Hardness:

In Rockwell and Superficial Rockwell Hardness Tests have several different scales which depend on the various choices and combination of tests, indenters and major loads. For each test, a minor load is applied with steel ball indenter or diamond cone indenter to position on the material’s surface establishing the zero reference. After that a major load is applied for a specific amount of time. The difference between the zero reference position and the indent due to major load measures the value of Rockwell hardness. The choice of indenter is depends upon the type of the material.

Sample Requirement:

    ✔ As per international standards
✔ Sample could be of any size minimum of 15 mm.
✔ Machining Facility is available for larger samples.

Toughness of materials can measure by impact testing machine or area under the stress-strain curve. Sample according to the ASTM standard is prepared with v- shaped notch and then sudden load is applied. Under influence f this force materials is caused by sudden failure , energy absorbed by the material up to the complete rupture is then calculate with the help of gauge, which gives impact strength or toughness of material.

    X-ray Digital Radiography

PMT Lab has expanded its testing capabilities to cater for the need of our industries and offers two methods of X-ray inspection to meet requirements of standard specifications and customer’s preferences:

      a. Computed Radiography / Digital Radiography (CR)
      b. Conventional Radiography / Film Radiography (XR)

Conventional radiography utilizes film which is able to produce a high-contrast image that is viewed on a film reader. Computed or digital radiography has the ability to adjust contrast and zoom into areas of greater interest and produces a digital image that can be saved to a disc, emailed to customers and easily archived.

    Sample Requirements:

✔ Any shape of the sample can be inspected.
✔ Sample should be maximum of 600 x 900 mm.
✔ Sample should maximum of 100 Kg.

    Facilities:

✔ Both types of industrial radiography (digital & Film) are performed on solid materials.
✔ The digital and film images are evaluated by Qualified Engineers according to the required test specifications.
✔ Industrial radiography is performed as per MIL and ASTM specifications.

    Capabilities:

Digital radiography and conventional radiography both provide information to determine the soundness of a material or product and are valuable inspection method for a variety of purposes

      1. Detect internal discontinuities such as shrinkage, cracking and porosity
      2. Verify the integrity of internal components
      3. Determine the quality of welds
      4. Identify the extent of corrosion

    Standard Test Methods:

      ✔ ASTM E94
      ✔ ASTM E1000

    Ultrasonic Testing

The ultrasonic principle is based on the fact that solid materials are good conductor of sound waves. Whereby the waves are not only reflected at the interfaces but also by internal flaws (material separations, inclusions up to depth of 5 meters. The interaction effect of sound waves with the material is stronger the smaller the wave length, this means the higher the frequency of the wave.

    Dye Penetrant Testing

Liquid penetrant examination is one of the most popular Nondestructive Examination (NDE) methods in the industry. It is economical, versatile, and requires minimal training when compared to another NDE method. Liquid Penetrant exams checks for material flaws open to the surface by flowing very thin liquid into the flaw and then drawing the liquid out with a chalk-like developer. Welds are the most common item inspected, but plate, bras, pipes, castings and forgings are also commonly inspected using liquid penetrant examination.

    Magnetic-Particle Testing Technique

Magnetic-Particle examination (MT) is a very popular, low-cost method to perform nondestructive examination (NDE) of ferromagnetic material. Ferromagnetic material is defined in ASME Section V as “a term applied to material that can be magnetized or strongly attracted by a magnetic field.” MT is an NDE method that’s checks for surface discontinuities but can also reveal discontinuities slightly below the surface.

    Industrial Fiberscope

Another type of borescope is a fiberscope. It uses fiber optic stands to project the image from the tip of the probe to the eyepiece and view the internal surface of bores, tubes and pipes up to length of 2750mm. its advantage is its flexibility. It is able to bend into areas that may be impossible to get to with a rigid scope. The head of the probe ids also able to be maneuvered once in place, say with in a compressor turbine area, in order to gat different fields of view.

    Quality Control Bridge

The scope of Quality Control Bridge is to sorting of Ferromagnetic materials by comparing their magnetic hysteresis loops in the form of rods/bars.

    Hand Held X-Ray Fluorescent Spectrometer

Handheld X-ray fluorescent (XRF) analyzers have the capability to quantify or qualify nearly any element from Magnesium to Uranium, depending on specific instrument configurations. Portable XRF spectrometers allow to take the battery operated analyzer to the sample rather than bringing the sample into the lab. This is especially useful when the test specimen is large or heavy. This instrument is portable and covers very small space and can easily transported to the site.

    Materials Facilities:

The instrument can analyze the following materials:

✔ Toxic elements e.g Cr, Ni, Pb, Cl, etc in rubber and Plastic material especially in Toys & Kitchen ware.
✔ Rubber and Plastic of all kinds
      ✔ Ferrous based Materials
      ✔ Non-Ferrous Materials
      ✔ Refractory Materials
      ✔ Precious Metals

    Sample Requirements:

✔ Minimum requirement of the sample is about 10 to 15 mm.
✔ The sample should be level from one side and free of Surface Contamination.

    Capabilities:

✔ PMT Labs has capability to analyze the detailed composition of the above mentioned materials.
✔ This instrument can analyze the on-site materials.
      ✔ It is portable.

    Standard Test Methods:

As per manufacturer’s provided operating manual.

    Classical Wet chemistry:

Wet Chemistry, also called wet chemical analysis, generally refers to chemistry performed on samples in the liquid phase. Since wet chemical analysis is performed on liquid samples, this type of element analysis can often be performed on samples too small for other instrumental methods. Both classical and instrumental wet chemistry methods can provide qualitative and quantitative data about elements in the test sample. PMT Labs has the expertise and fully-equipped laboratories and trained staff to provide both types of analyses.

Quantitative Analysis by Atomic Emission Spectroscopy:

The test specimen is prepared by grinding the sample material to obtain a uniform, clean and flat surface free of contamination. Atomic Emission Spectroscopy systems have a spark source that creates the energetic environment. The atoms in the sample are energized using a rapid series of high energy sparks in an argon-filled gap between an electrode (cathode) and the surface of the specimen. Element analysis by Atomic Emission Spectroscopy entails comparing the emission lines from the sample to known standards to identify the element and calculate the quantity of the element. Consequently, the elemental composition can be determined both qualitatively and quantitatively by the types and intensities of the emission lines.
